Welcome to Prose Quarter!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the grand opening of Prose Quarter! We’re a brand new platform for Blazer fans and Blazer discussion, featuring a custom comment system built from the ground-up for a great user experience.

Why build Prose Quarter?

One, we’re gluttons for a technical challenge and have an obsession for figuring things out. Earlier in the year we had posed the question “what would it take to build a custom comment system from the ground up?” We were far from experts in web development but weren’t satisfied without at least attempting to answer the question. We were also motivated to answer whether we could in fact improve on what’s offered by existing platforms, or restore desirable features from lost comment systems of the past. Beyond that, we saw value in simply providing another platform for the league’s most passionate and talkative fanbase, one we can build together collaboratively. After several few months, a lot of head-scratching, and much persistence, Prose Quarter is the result of these musings.

Why take my commenting talents to Prose Quarter?

We know what you’re thinking at first glance – things look pretty rudimentary right now. We wanted to get the foundation right first to provide an albeit basic but fundamentally good user experience now, allowing us to expand the platform going forward. We’ll be here with you in the comments section reading what works, what doesn’t, and what you want added, so please let us know! We think this is a fairly unique opportunity for participants to help steer the direction of this type of site, in terms of both features and content.

What we’re not:

We think we’ve built a good foundation for a discussion platform on the technical side. However, we’re not sportswriters, so please don’t expect Prose Quarter to feature a great deal of editorial content, at least initially. We’ve built this platform for the long haul, and it’s our hope to provide a platform attractive to those who do write or otherwise create content. As such, if you’re passionate about the Blazers and want to contribute to Prose Quarter, please reach out to us!

Additionally, you should expect a relatively lower amount of threads on the homepage. We don’t have staff to post a new thread for each news item, and we probably want to avoid splitting the discussion among too many threads, at least while our userbase is on the smaller side.

Thanks, everyone, and here's to a great future of Blazer discussion here at Prose Quarter!
